Editorial Policy

How ALFA USA News finds, writes and publishes stories from SEC filings.

This page describes how ALFA USA News finds, writes and publishes its reporting. It is written to be checkable: everything below is either visible on our article pages or can be verified against the SEC filings we link.

1. What we cover

We report material disclosures filed with the SEC by US-listed companies: acquisitions and mergers, divestitures, contract wins, capital raises, licensing deals, partnerships, capacity expansions, regulatory approvals, quarterly results and earnings calls.

We do not cover rumours, unattributed "sources say" reporting, analyst notes or social-media speculation. If a company has not filed it, we do not report it.

2. Sourcing

  • The filing comes first. Every article starts from one document: the filing the company made with the SEC. It is linked on every article, under "Source verified", so any reader can check our reporting against it.
  • Attribution. Press releases and management quotes attached to a filing are attributed to the company by name.
  • Market data is labelled. Share price, market cap, revenue and P/E come from a third-party market data provider and are marked as such.

3. How a story is produced

  • Detection. Our system watches SEC EDGAR continuously and picks up new filings as they are published.
  • Classification. Each filing is read and sorted by the kind of event it reports.
  • Selection, against rules our editors set. Most filings are routine and are never published. A filing must meet thresholds by event type and by its size relative to the company.
  • Writing. Each article is prepared from the text of the filing and the market data shown with it, and carries the name of the editor responsible for it.
  • Publishing. Finished articles go live one at a time, a few minutes apart. Mistakes are handled under our Corrections Policy.
  • Images. Article images are stock photos from Pexels or Pixabay, credited under the image, or an illustration captioned "Representative image". Neither is a photograph of the company itself.

4. How the numbers get onto the page

  • "Key numbers" are calculated by our code from the filing's deal value and the company's market data: the deal against the company's market value and revenue, and the share price when we reported it.
  • "Results at a glance" tables are built by our code directly from the structured financial data (XBRL) inside the company's filing.
  • "Financial snapshot" tables are shown exactly as received from the market data provider.
  • Earlier announcements come with a link to the page each one was found on.
  • Figures in the article text are taken from the filing and the market data. If a figure ever differs from the linked filing, the filing is right, and we correct the article.

5. What we don't do

  • No price targets, ratings or buy/sell recommendations.
  • No paid coverage. Companies cannot pay to be covered, or to be covered differently.
  • No rewriting of other outlets' stories.
